Small Steps, Big Difference.<\/h4>\n\n

Growing your own food can save families tons of money in grocery shopping bills whilst also promoting healthy organic eating. Reusing and recycling can help save the environment as well as save money! In this program, you will learn to incorporate recycling and sustainable practices like composting into vegetable gardening where you grow things like spinach, kale, carrots and lettuce! <\/p>\n

The Bell Recycling and Climate Change Program aims to motivate community interest in learning about climate change and sustainable living. The program consists of growing vegetables in a community garden in the Bronx as well as growing with an at-home plant care project where you can grow smaller herbs and plants. Upon completing the program, you get to go home with a $100 gift card, a certificate of completion and all the vegetables and plants that you’ve grown so far.<\/p>\n\n

All applicants must be between the ages of 9 to 24. <\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

Do I have to pay to apply or participate?<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>
\n

No. The program is free to apply for and participate in. <\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

What will I do during the program?<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>

You will plant and grow vegetables like lettuce, kale, spinach and carrots at a community garden in the Bronx. At home you will grow herbs like basil, thyme, lentil sprouts or rosemary.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

What would I have to bring to the program?<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>

Yourself! Oh, and your lunch! All the seeds, tools and protective gear will be provided to you. <\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

Where will this program take place?<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>
\n

At a community garden in the Bronx. The exact location is yet to be confirmed. Please check on our social media for the latest information. <\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

Are there specific days or times the instructor is available for additional garden visits<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>
\n

Additional afternoons to visit garden with the Instructor and work on your plants. These days can be made upon request to the Instructor or requested by the Instructor to participants. <\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

How and when do I receive the $100 Visa Gift Card?<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>
\n

Upon completing all of the program requirements, you will be eligible to receive the $100 Visa Gift Card, along with a certificate of completion as well as all of the vegetables that you’ve grown till that point. <\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

What happens if I join the program but can’t complete it?<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>
\n

If you don’t complete the program, you will no longer be eligible to receive the $100 Visa Gift Card or the certificate of complettion. You will be allowed to take all of the vegetables that you’ve grown up until this point. <\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

Is there a dress code?<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>
\n

Not necessarily. But you should wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. Sneakers and long sleeves are advised to protect from the sun and shrubbery. <\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

Is there a bathroom on-site?<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>
\n

No, but the program facilitators should be able to direct you to the nearest available bathroom.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n

Does this program have homework?<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>
\n

Not really, but part of the program involves growing a plant at home! The home plant’s growth will be completely your responsibility but a reasonable effort to grow it must be shown by the end of the program for you to be considered done.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n
