For an orphaned child in Haiti, the first day of school can bring more worry than joy. Most schools in the country are private, and many families live on less than $2 a day. Education is out of reach for so many children, and the cost is hardest on those who have no parents to turn to. A child who has already lost so much should not also have to lose the chance to learn.
As the new school year begins, Rising Minds Haiti is standing beside more than 150 orphaned students in Gros-Morne, Haiti. BELL Organization has joined this effort to make sure each child starts the year with a backpack and the school supplies they need.
Each backpack, notebook, pencil, and calculator is more than a classroom tool. These items tell a child, “You matter, you belong here, and your future is worth investing in.” We hope these school supplies will help these children feel confident and cared for. We also hope they will open the door to better education and a more hopeful future for each child, their community, and their country.
