BELL Organization Recycling and Climate Change Program is a six-week program which aims to motivate community interest among students from an early age in learning about climate change and sustainable living while assisting families who are financially burdened due to the ongoing pandemic. Growing your own produce can address food waste management, save families who are already financially cash-strapped save money in grocery shopping bills while also promoting healthy food consumption.
Reusing and recycling can help save the environment as well as our planet. In this program, students will learn to incorporate sustainable practices through recycling such as incorporating compost in vegetable gardening where they grow produce like spinach, kale, carrots, and lettuce. The program consists of growing vegetables in a community garden in the Bronx as well as an at-home plant care project where students can grow smaller herbs and plants. Upon completing the program, students get a $100 gift card, a certificate of completion, and all of the vegetables and plants that you’ve grown.
