Literacy extends well beyond the basic ability to read or write. Illiteracy can severely impact a person’s emotional and intellectual growth, often hindering their ability to lead a fulfilling and successful life. Strong literacy skills are crucial for learning and social interaction, forming the basis for communication with family, friends, and employers throughout life. Ensuring that children develop strong reading and writing abilities early on is essential to preventing future challenges like unemployment, social isolation, and even involvement in the justice system. BELL Organization will partner with elected officials such as Councilwoman Amanda Farias and many others to address the literacy problems with the launch of our literacy program in the Bronx, NYC.
